Oral Cancer Screening

Asseff Dental Cosmetics & General Dentistry offer oral cancer screening to help identifying areas of abnormal cells in the mouth. Our goal with oral cancer screening is to help identify signs of cancer early on to improve the chances for a cure.

During our oral cancer screening, Dr. Asseff will look over the inside of your mouth to check for red or white patches or mouth sores. Using gloved hands, we will also feel the tissues in your mouth to check for lumps or other abnormalities.

An oral exam alone can’t determine which sores are cancerous and which are not. If we find any unusual sore, we will use further testing to determine its cause. The only way to definitively determine whether one has oral cancer is to remove some abnormal cells and test them for cancer in a procedure called a biopsy. We always ensure a maximum level of comfort during any biopsy procedures.
